The crosses pictured are displayed during Semana Santa, or Holy Week. They are made out of talavera, a unique type of ceramic work that Spanish colonizers brought to Mexico. Colorful religious symbols such as these represent a combination of artistic expression and faith that resulted despite a devastating period of conquest & imposed religion.
